Errant Sound Project Space (as part of Transmediale Vorspiel)
A 3 hours and 44 minutes long installation-performance with sounds made in a process of 'automatic creation', daily sketch-like work with sound processes and sound transformation, following up and re-working micro-results by manipulating software in extreme parameters.
Interspersed are sound objects, also processed live.
The piece is projected through small speakers with different acoustic characteristics spread throughout the performance space.
What originates from the artists mind, what from the depth of the digital software, what from the physicality of the speaker?
A 3 hours and 44 minutes long installation-performance with sounds made in a process of 'automatic creation' (in humble reference to Robert Ashley's 'automatic writing'): for around two months I made myself do some work with processing sounds, every day, every evening, into the night. Experimenting with various software/patches/effects, keeping/recording results that I found interesting, re-processing them, that night or the next, starting anew with the next micro-set, moving along.
To me, this material displays digitalness in an archaic way, rooted in some depth of the machine, showing processes that can go on for ever or change abruptly.
Interspersed are sound samples with a 'generic' quality - a door squeaking, a lion roaring, rice grains pouring, biting an apple, walking, sorting objects. Sounds as symbols, standing for themselves, suggesting an archaic realm like the instruments used for live processing.
Please feel free to move the speakers in the space.
There will be a break for around five minutes near the full hour.
